Darkness vs. Light

Darkness vs. Light

My daughter and I were traveling down a road near a friend’s house recently and were looking at the sky around us. On one side of us, the sky was getting darker and darker. The clouds were starting to look rather ominous. The other side was still bright and beautiful. Light filled the sky and there seemed to be no reason for concern based upon the way it looked in that direction. I pointed out the two sides to my daughter and said, “I wonder which side will win, the light or the dark”.

As soon as the words were out of my mouth, I knew that I would be writing about them. I quickly told my daughter that I needed them written down or I would forget them. I knew I needed to remember them because I felt like it was a question lingering in the back of the minds of many people these days. Whether you realize it or not, we are at war with darkness. Look around you, my friend, the evidence is everywhere you look. Darkness is no longer hiding.

Yes, people may try to pretend that it isn’t as bad as you think it is. They’re right. It’s much worse. The enemy knows his days are limited and he is active like never before. Dark clouds are filling the sky and many of us wonder will the light win or will the darkness overcome it. Beloved, may I stop right here to tell you something? I’ve read the end of the Book. The Light wins. In the end, darkness will not prevail; it will not be victorious. The Light has overcome and holds the victory.

As my daughter and I continued to travel down the road, rain began to fall on our windshield. It started out slow but steadily increased as we drove home. I thought to myself, “Well, I guess the dark side won for the moment.” The rain continued for a while, but by the time I got home, it had stopped. Like all storms, it didn’t last; it was just passing through. The “darkness” may have won for a moment, but it was only a temporary victory. Soon the sun peeked out and all was well again.

Dear heart, there will be times when it seems as if the darkness is winning but we must remember this truth. Any victory the darkness seems to hold is only temporary. The Light has already won. Colossians 2:15 assures us that Christ has triumphed over the enemy. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are assured that ultimately we will experience victory. However, the truth of the fact that we are indeed at war with a vicious enemy cannot be ignored.

We are surrounded by a darkness that is getting darker and bolder each day. We cannot casually stroll through this world without being properly dressed. (Read Ephesians 6:10-18 so you will know how to dress for the war you are in.) And please hear me, beloved, I cannot stress this enough. You are at war. Do not, for one moment forget this. The stakes are too high. You have got to stand firm in your faith like never before against the rising tide of evil spreading across this globe.

My friend, in all of my forty-six years, I have never seen evil and violence on a level that it is now. Never have I seen such flagrant disregard for the morals and standards that once meant so much to our great nation. And I never dreamed I would live in a world where Jews would be treated this way again. I have no doubts that we are in the last seconds of the last hours. This is why I felt we needed this important reminder to cling to, dear heart.

The darkness may be spreading, but we must live and walk in the Light. We must daily seek to dwell in the Light. And we must keep reminding ourselves that in the end, the Light wins. Until then, we must do all we can to stand firm against the darkness and be a light shining for Him. “So that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world” Phil. 2:15.
