In the Middle of Things

My daughter and I were cooking together recently, something we do quite often. We were making one of those things with multiple ingredients that doesn’t look very appetizing until you reach a certain point in the cooking process. I reminded her not to let the way things looked at the moment make her not want to eat it when it was done. She assured me I needn’t be concerned by saying, “I’ve seen what it looks like in the end. I know it will be good.” The minute she said those words, I felt a flutter somewhere deep in my spirit.

“I’ve seen what it looks like in the end. I know it will be good.” What a beautiful Truth to remember! I’ve read my Bible through many times over the years. I’ve been through several studies of Revelation. My friend, I’ve seen what it looks like in the end. I know it will be good. This world is not the end; this world is not my home. I am just passing through and someday soon, I will make it home. What a day that will be, dear heart! The truth is that His Word tells me what awaits me in the end, and it is more than good!

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea no longer existed. I also saw the Holy City, new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride for her husband” Revelation 21:1-2. For the believer who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ, the end is more beautiful than anything we can imagine. For us, the end is going to be worth everything we go through on our journey there. The end will be worth everything we face to get there, dear heart.

While my daughter and I were in the middle of cooking, it truly did not look very appetizing there for a while. However, when it all blended together and finished cooking, it was so delicious. It was definitely worth the wait. That’s why she could say, “I’ve seen what it looks like in the end. I know it will be good.” It didn’t matter what it looked like in the middle of the process; it was how it would turn out in the end that mattered. The end result was what we were working towards. This is true of life as well. It is the end result that we need to focus on.

Sometimes, life gets messy here in the middle of things. Sometimes, life doesn’t look so great when you are right in the middle of things. Dear heart, I don’t know about you, but lately, there have been a lot of “this doesn’t look so great” moments in my life. There’s been a lot of mess here in the middle of things. Many times, in the last few years, I have needed to be reminded of what it looks like in the end. I have needed to be reminded that it will be good in the end. I have needed to cling to the truth that good things are waiting up ahead.

Perhaps you too have needed this reminder today, beloved. Perhaps you too need to be reminded of the joy that awaits us on “the other shore”. Weary soul, I’ve seen what the end looks like, and it is good. In fact, it is beyond description. Until then, hold on and remember, this is not the end. Your story isn’t over yet; He’s still working. You’re not done yet, beloved, but someday, some glorious day, it will all be worth it. One day, you’ll see that the end was indeed good. You’ll see that it was worth everything you went through to get there.

Then I heard a loud voice from the throne: Look! God’s dwelling is with humanity, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will no longer exist; grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away. Then the One seated on the throne said, “Look I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write because these words are faithful and true.” Revelation 21:3-5
