Several years ago, my Aunt Pam, my daughter Georgia, and I were going to the wedding of one of our cousin’s and did not know the exact location of the venue where the wedding was being held. We did what most people do these days; we turned to our cell phone for guidance. We programmed the address into our phone and headed out, carefully following each instruction the phone’s navigation system gave us. Everything was going great, and we laughed and chatted as we journeyed towards our destination. We knew we had left in plenty of time and trusted that the phone would lead us to the place we needed to be in time for the wedding ceremony.
You can imagine our surprise when after turning onto a narrow street with nothing but pavement on one side and several run-down houses on the other, our phone proudly announced we had arrived at our destination. No, dear cell phone, we definitely had not reached our destination! We were quite certain that the venue for the wedding was not anywhere in sight! Trying not to panic, we looked for a safe place to stop and try to figure out what we needed to do. Since the cell phone we were using insisted we had reached our destination, we needed another guide to help us find our destination. We needed to act quickly since we weren’t sure how much further we had to go.
We switched cell phones and tried again. Thankfully, this time it led us almost, straight to our destination. Let’s just say this trip had a little more stress and a lot more laughs than we had planned on having! We eventually made it and arrived in time to beat the bride down the aisle. We learned a valuable lesson that day. If you don’t know the way you need to go, you better make sure that the one guiding you does! As I reminisced about our experience today, I realized that there is a very important truth to be gained from this experience. If you don’t know the way you need to go, you better make sure the One guiding you knows how to get you where you need to go!
I’ve learned that you can’t always trust people or things to help you find your way. Sometimes they lead you astray. Sometimes they lead you to the wrong destination. I’ve learned there is only One capable of leading you where you need to be. And thankfully, He will never lead you astray. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” Proverbs 3:5-6. When you look to Him for the guidance you need, you can rest assured that He will always get you where you need to be. He is the best Guide you will ever find, and He will always lead you the right way.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you” Psalm 32:8. God is always willing to give guidance to those who come to Him for help. He will lead you; He will guide you. He knows better than you do where you need to be and where you need to go, and He alone can help you get there. God alone, knows the best path for each one of us. Only the One who created us and knows the plans He has for us (Jer. 29:11) is qualified to direct our steps. It is in our best interest to seek His guidance on a daily basis in order to make sure that we are staying on the right path. In fact, we need His direction to know which path we should be on in the first place!
The truth is that He created each one of us and has a unique plan for each of our lives. Dear heart, He created you with a purpose that only you can fulfill. You are not an accident. You were created for a purpose and in order to know that purpose, you need to seek the guidance of the One who knows what that purpose is. Your loving Guide wants to lead you and help you fulfill that purpose and if you seek His guidance, you will find it. “And your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left” Isaiah 30:21. He will guide you, beloved, you don’t have to try to make it alone. Turn to Him; let Him lead the way.
It occurred to me as I was thinking about all this that we are all actually on our way to another wedding! Revelation 19:7-10 describes the marriage feast of the Lamb, the marriage supper that will one day take place in heaven. My friend, this is one wedding you do not want to miss! I pray with all my heart that you have already secured your invitation to the wedding by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. And in case you didn’t know, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior then you, my beloved, are the bride of Christ. You are the bride that He is preparing the feast for! What a day that will be! What a wedding celebration that will be!
I couldn’t help but smile as I pondered on the fact that I am once again on the way to the wedding. But this time, there is one big difference. This Guide will not fail me; He will get me to my destination… just in time for the wedding! I do not have to worry about getting lost because He will not let me lose my way. He will guide me each step of the way! It won’t always be easy and there may be times I wonder if He has sent me the wrong way, but I am learning that when I can’t understand His directions; I can always trust His heart. I may not always understand the path He leads me down, but I know that He loves me, and I can trust Him. When I don’t know the why, I cling to the Who.
I cling to the fact that He loves me, and this helps me to trust Him when I don’t understand the path, He leads me down. I remind myself of truth and I cling to that truth as I trust Him to guide me to where I need to be. And no matter what this life brings, I know that someday, someday, dear heart, He will get me to the wedding just in time. Someday, my friend, this life will all be over, and I hope you are there for the biggest wedding celebration that has ever been. I’m going to be there, and I sure do hope to see you there. Make sure you have your ticket, let Him be your Guide, and trust Him to get you where you need to be. And, my friend, I’ll see you at the wedding.
