Waiting For the Master

When we were teenagers, my brother had a black lab named Missy. She was one of the best dogs I’ve ever known, and she loved my brother dearly. We lived out in the country and Missy amused herself doing different things during the day while he was gone. However, there was really only one thing on her mind. She was waiting for his return. Long before any of the rest of us would be aware of it, she would hear him coming. She knew the sound of his truck and knew when he was coming.

We would be sitting outside in the evening, and her ears would perk up. The next thing you knew, she would take off running down our driveway and out across the fields to meet him. It would take us another minute or two before we could hear his truck turning off the highway. It would be another minute before he turned onto our road where Missy was waiting to run alongside him as he headed towards home. Once they made it, she barked joyfully until he got out to pet and love on her.

As I was reminiscing about her and thinking about this, I realized that believers are called to be like Missy. Like Missy, we are to be eagerly awaiting our Master’s return. This means living each day listening and watching for the sound of His arrival. We also need to let those around us know that He is on the way so that they can be prepared as well. They need to know that Jesus is coming again. Dear heart, are you looking for His return? Are you living in eager anticipation of that day? Are you letting others know He is on His way?

Let’s do all we can to live in anticipation of the Master’s return and tell others about the hope we have found in Him.

Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him… Rev. 1:7a – Katrina Douglas
